Let Your Hand Be With Me | The Prayer of Jabez — Part 5
Jabez prays that the hand of the God he knows—the hand he has experienced—might accompany him into lands where he has never before set foot. Scripture shows that hand most clearly at the water. It parted the Red Sea, stopped the Jordan, and reached into the waves for a sinking Peter. And in the Jordan, the sinless Son of God went down into the water. He had no need of repentance, but He went to obey His Father and to show us the way. Preached ahead of our baptism service, this message sets out what baptism is and what it isn't. The water does not save, but neither is baptism optional. It is Jabez's prayer prayed with the whole body: "Lord, let Your hand be with me."

Ezra repeatedly says one phrase in his book — "The good hand of my God was upon me." In this second part of the "The Hand of the Lord" sermon series, we look at three moments of that good hand — it opens doors, gives us courage to gather a people, and is the hand we trust risking everything for. Ezra's courage to fall on his knees instead of relying on an army teaches us: even if we don't have an army, the good hand is upon those who seek Him. "The hand of our God is for good on all who seek Him." (Ezra 8:22)

Human hands have the power to do many amazing things. However, human self-efforts (the measure of 6 fingers) can only build worldly things; only when God's 7th hand rests upon our efforts does it result in eternal fruit and blessing. Like the "cloud the size of a man's hand" that came to end the drought during the time of prophet Elijah, God's mighty hand is coming to change your weary circumstances. Do not give up your efforts in doing good; may the Lord Himself bless your family and your labor!
